Keeping it Positive: NLEX Scaling Up its Response to COVID-19
by Geraline Jorge
“No crisis can beat us if we work together.”
The magnitude of distress brought by COVID-19 is eminent and needs a call for urgent action. During these extraordinary times, we have seen the waves of economic and mental health fallout. All of us are constantly changing our approach to everyday life to ease the challenges that we are facing. With this, NLEX ensures to protect its employees no matter what changes and challenges we face ahead.
When a potential risk like this happens in the workplace, it must lead to a rapid response; actions that are pre-planned and well communicated.
NLEX has set up programs to ensure its employees will feel comfortable and safe upon returning to work. Even with the existing measures and protocols, there were few positive COVID-19 cases reported in the workplace. Because of this, NLEX immediately scaled up its safety measures in response to the current situation.
A more stringent and effective system is created to eliminate the virus in the workplace. Immediate swab testing, contact tracing, case investigation, and isolating potential COVID-19 carriers are done to manage a healthy work environment. Frequent work area disinfection and stricter policies on safety protocols are made to keep employees safe and healthy. Investing in the safety and health condition of employees is of utmost priority more than ever.
In just a few months, we have planned and implemented tough systems to continuously eliminate the threat of the virus. We have achieved in months what would normally take years. These big leaps must not lull us into a false sense of security. The road to eliminating COVID-19 still holds many unknowns.
As the virus began to ripple across the world, we have worked together and built an incredible resilience in the midst of the pandemic. Wherever we are and whoever we are with, we must use this time to grow together as family. Facing the COVID-19 crisis together could bring us closer and lead us to promote a positive psychological growth.
Robust safety and health systems are essential components to control the pandemic, but these are not long-term solutions. Securing effective vaccines and treatment are the only ways to bring this pandemic to an end. Until all countries are protected, we all remain at risk.
Loosening restrictions allows us to see friends and family (although at a distance). But, we should always be cautious and focused on what to do whenever we are in public. Our social responsibility plays a huge part in combating COVID-19, let us not forget that protecting ourselves can save lives.
We must learn from the first several months; redouble our protection and efforts, and most importantly is that we continue to act together.
