PAMELA LOZADA your Internal Auditor sa weekdays, Insurance Agent sa weekend

By Nea M. Dela Pena

Insurance? Investment? What comes in your head first, when asked?

“Naku! Gastos lang yan”

“Di ko pa kailangan”

“Saka na lang”

Ironically, I think the same way, but before you skip this article, let me introduce to you our co-NLEX employee, who would share her personal journey as an Internal Auditor and as a Financial Adviser at the same time, which could turn our thoughts the other way around.

Pamela “Pam” Lozada, a young professional, became a part of NLEX in 2023 as an Internal Auditor. Despite finding fulfillment in her auditing responsibilities, she embraced another role outside her corporate job as a financial advisor. Last November, she participated in the NLEX Fair where she represented herself as an Insurance Agent, showcasing a variety of insurance products and services at her kiosk.

A well-known saying emphasizes the importance of understanding your product before attempting to sell it, so when asked how she became involved in this business, Pam says, she officially joined Sunlife as an Insurance Agent way back in 2022. Her mother made them aware of her insurance coverage (death benefit) and jokingly uttered “Para pag nawala ako, iiyak na lang kayo, at di niyo na po-problemahin ang kape at tinapay ng makikilamay”.  Also, they were able to survive college fees because of the educational insurance their mother availed.  Typically, from that time onward, she knew how insurance helped ease their finances.

I asked Pam if she herself had availed Sunlife products, and her response is that she already availed four products:

Sun Fit and Well Advantage 10, which is used as a health insurance for critical illnesses that will serve as her assurance even in times of unemployment;

Sun Acceler8, which focuses on her goal of retirement by the age of 45 which is 8 years to pay;

Sun Smarter Elite, which gives her guaranteed payouts, something similar or equivalent to an SSS pension she can receive; and

Sun Maxilink Prime, which is an insurance combined with investment.

As an individual and agent, she also encourages everyone to avail of insurance, especially health insurance, to have an additional financial source, especially in case of critical illness, not to mention the increasing medical cost here in the Philippines.

When asked for additional insights, the best time to avail of health insurance is when you are still healthy, since the premium might have your application be adjusted or declined once you are already critically diagnosed.  She also added that one must understand and set your goal first, for one to properly identify your insurance needs and the best product that fits your goals in mind.

Though she only availed the product 2022, it’s too early to harvest the benefits of investing. I can say that “Malayo pa, pero Malayo Na!”.  She knows that in time she will thank her younger self “Buti na lang Insured ka!”.

To end, below are the financial and insurance tips you can also consider…. JUST FOR FUNDS!
