Piliin mo ang Pilipinas!

By Claire Nicole A. Mendoza

#PiliinmoangPilipinas is a TikTok trend in which influencers from the Philippines display their talents while honoring the country’s rich and diverse culture. But… how did this trend start?

It originated from the global social media craze known as Asoka. In this trend, content creators demonstrated their artistic side by recreating traditional Indian bride make-up. Inspired by this, Filipino content creators adapted the idea and infused it with local style to celebrate Philippines culture.

This trend has reignited our fellow Filipinos’ desire to highlight our country’s rich heritage. Many have encouraged Filipino influencers to take on the #PiliinmoangPilipinas challenge. These influencers have embraced the challenge. They showcased various places in our country and distinct aspects of our culture. Filipinos are naturally creative, thus, the results of their efforts to make this challenge go viral are impressive and heartwarming.

Here are my personal favorites from this trend:

Lenie and her team never fail to impress us with their creativity. Their meticulous planning and flawless execution of this trend are simply remarkable. From traditional costumes to real-life Filipino street dance, their team has masterfully brought the #PiliinmoangPilipinas trend to life.

As our Independence Day commemoration approaches, this video provides a fresh perspective on the #PiliinMoangPilipinas trend. It highlights the patriotic spirit of our kababayans and shows how our national heroes chose to fight for our country’s independence despite overwhelming challenges.

Knowing Vice Ganda’s funny personality, I never expected her to take on something as bold as this trend. Through #PiliinmoangPilipinas, she not only showcased her talent but also addressed serious concerns confronting Filipinos today. What makes it extraordinary is her ability to convey that despite the challenges, she will always choose the Philippines.

Truly, this trend serves as an enlightening experience for younger generations. From showcasing traditional costumes and historical places to addressing serious issues, it offers an understanding of the meaning behind the “Piliin mo ang Pilipinas” theme song. And as we dig into our rich heritage and confront the challenges of today, let us reflect on this one question:

Ikaw, pinipili mo pa rin ba ang Pilipinas?
