On February 13, an insightful and informative webinar titled “Caring for the Health of Your Heart” was conducted in celebration of the Heart Health Awareness Month. The program focused on the importance of maintaining heart health, covering topics such as the different heart diseases and how to prevent them.
Dr. Mary Lauren Europa, the guest speaker, started her talk with a very important point: heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in the world, affecting both men and women. Dr. Europa discussed how to keep your heart healthy and gave an overview of common heart diseases, including their brief description, causes, and symptoms. She pointed out red flags and preventive measures. She also suggested lifestyle adjustments that everyone can adopt to protect their heart health.
Our heart, being at the center of the circulatory system, works relentlessly to pump oxygenated blood throughout the body. Challenges like clogged arteries, high blood pressure, or irregular heartbeats can affect this vital organ. These issues may lead to serious diseases such as unstable angina, heart attack, and heart failure. There are also abnormal heart rhythms, valve disease, congenital heart conditions, and inherited heart conditions.
Dr. Europa emphasized that early intervention and lifestyle changes can significantly reduce the risk of developing heart-related diseases. With proper knowledge and proactive efforts, we can greatly reduce its impact. Balanced nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and sleep is crucial to keep the heart at its best. In addition, regular checkups, controlling your cholesterol, and managing blood pressure are also essential to ensure you’re right on track. With these preventive measures, everyone can significantly improve their heart health and towards a longer, healthier life.
