A group of five people wanted to start a business, and so they pooled their money to construct their building.
Because they are persons with INTEGRITY, they want their business to be efficient in order to ensure a return of their investments and provide continuous employment to their workers.
So, they constructed a TRANSPARENT building. They believe that transparency will show the different processes inside their factory. If the walls of the building are transparent, the people and machines working inside can be easily seen.
And because the walls are transparent, each worker’s responsibility can be identified. This means that each assigned worker is ACCOUNTABLE for his or her work. Any gap in the work process can be easily identified and resolved.
The workers imbibed the integrity of the leaders and thus worked properly and with dignity. This further bolstered the integrity of the systems inside the workplace. The processes were continuously enhanced and the responsible workers contributed to the efficiency and improvement of the business.
As a result of the INTEGRITY, TRANSPARENCY, and ACCOUNTABILITY instituted by the leaders, FAIRNESS became a norm. Policies, processes, and rules were always discussed in order to contribute to the overall integrity of the business. The workers were conscious of their responsibilities, and the owners were also aware of their obligations to ensure the fairness and integrity of the business. This has translated to their HELPFULNESS to each other because they all love their company.
In the end, the owners and the workers became successful in building their business because they all kept the FAITH – Fairness, Accountability, Integrity, Transparency, and Helpfulness. This is their building.
Defining core values is not enough; its implementation is a complex and challenging process as it requires an effort from the whole organization. This may seem like a great deal of work, but as they always say, the greater the effort, the sweeter the reward — a strong, purpose-led, and sustainable organization.
In the past three years, the MPTC CG has been steadily embedding good corporate governance principles and values across MPTC companies. There have been engaging activities such as orientations, workshops, focused group discussions, and online quizzes, among others.
Recently, the MY CG APP was launched to provide easy access to CG policies, report submissions, and communication.
