Entry #6 Contributor: Gloria Gumatay
It started way back 2006, I was an OIC in a Telco, and then met officers of MNTC (before) who applied for the disconnection of their cellphone lines. I asked them for any open positions :). I then applied and was hired in TMC, in Sept. 2006 as Toll Teller. I managed and adjusted myself for four months in Toll Operations and was then moved to Traffic Operations around Feb 2007. Konti lang ang girls sa Traffic and my job was rotating (moving from one section to another). In May of 2011, because of my eagerness to learn new things, I then decided to apply again internally as a Legal assistant under the Commercial Management Division of TMC. My Boss was very flexible and wanted us to be flexible also in our job. I learned about contracts and insurance. Halos sabi nga ng mga ka-batch ko na tellers “andami mo na naikutan at nalipatan”, I told them na mag apply lang internally, lakasan lang ng loob and, if failed, ay apply lang ulit. Years passed, I decided to complete my 4-year course, and with the guidance of the Lord, I’m able to finish it. Oct 2014 when I decided to avail the resignation offer of TMC but as the saying goes, “whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours”. Days after my resignation, a blessing in disguise came, I was hired in the Basketball Department with the NLEX Road Warriors. I didn’t know how to start that time since I’m not a basketball fan. But all of my learnings with all of the departments and divisions where I’ve been to, I applied all of them with where I am right now, being the only woman in the NRW, handling all of the team’s needs, and it’s all worth it!
One of life’s mysteries is that we never know what will happen, for reasons known only to the Almighty, we must be ready. What and who I am now is because of courage and sacrifice.
