Partnering for Success: Candaba 3rd Viaduct NEC 4 ECC Option C Workshop Held

By Sam S. Escolano

NEC ECC 4 Option C’s Clause 10.2 states, “The Parties, the Project Manager and the Supervisor act in a spirit of mutual trust and co-operation.”

In order to foster mutual trust, cooperation, and shared enhanced contract knowledge of NLEX, LCAL, and Norconsult teams, an NEC4 Option C Contract and Partnering Workshop was held on February 23 to 24, 2023, at the Hilton Clark Sun Valley Resort in Clark, Pampanga.

In the workshop, the participants were oriented on the obligations of the parties, payment mechanisms, change management, and project program management under the contract. On top of the collaboration exercises, the workshop facilitator gave team-working and team-building exercises.

Scalar’s Managing Director, John Rayner, an industry-wide recognized NEC specialist, facilitated the workshop. A quantity surveyor with a first-class honors degree in Civil Engineering Commercial Management from Nottingham Trent University, his facilitation of previous NEC workshops supported the successful implementation of previous NLEX expansion projects.

Hands-On. The workshop included a team-building aspect where joint NLEX, LCAL, and Norconsult teams built spaghetti bridges with changing requirements. The facilitator then pointed out the importance of mutual trust and collaboration in order to surpass project challenges.
Champions. Team Infinity won the team-building exercise with their well-designed Infinity Bridge.
