Have you ever heard the word Sustainability? It’s an overused word that comes to our mind
when we talk about the environment, society, and economy. It is a holistic approach to finding
solutions to benefit the planet, people, and prosperity simultaneously.
What is it for us, NLEX, to practice sustainability?
Sheesh! Besides tree planting, here are some surprising facts about sustainability:
It drives innovation. With a goal to conserve and save energy, we come up with renewable
energy technologies like solar photovoltaic (PV) to harvest power from the sunlight.
Sustainability encourages creative solutions to complex problems.

It aims for future-proofing. We can ensure that future generations have the resources to thrive. Sustainability helps everyone to think for a long-term plan which is crucial for the health of our planet and society.
It keeps a circular economy. It aims to eliminate waste and keep the resources in use for as
long as possible. It’s a huge leap from the traditional linear economy of “take, make, dispose of”. Instead, with sustainability, we can share, lease, reuse, repair, refurbish, and recycle materials as long as possible.

It involves community efforts and collaboration. Sustainability is not just a one-man job. This
fosters a sense of shared responsibility and collective action across different groups, sectors,
or organizations.

It has health benefits. Practices such as eating plant-rich or plant-based food and reducing
pollution, can lead to better health outcomes for the community.

Sustainability is not just about planting a tree but also a huge journey that requires collective
effort and commitment. By embracing sustainable practices, we can ensure a healthier world for future generations.
