Soulfull: Remembering Elvin
by Lani Marcelino
I clearly remember the moment when I met Elvin Cruz ten years ago. HR accompanied him, along with Sam Escolano and Irene Cruz, for their familiarization tour of the company’s workstations. The three of them had the distinction of being the first management trainees from the University of the Philippines (UP).
From then on, Elvin, whom many of us called by his nickname “Vinz,” made his mark at work. He wasn’t just a great engineer. He was also a well-liked friend. He was the kind of employee that any company would be blessed to have.
In this installment of of SoulFull, we pay tribute to Vinz, who had also served as the pioneer Editor-in-Chief of Northlink.
Vinz would have had many more good years ahead of him if the Big C didn’t come into the picture. Our dear friend Vinz fought as hard as he could to beat the disease. Unfortunately, it overwhelmed his body and took his life.
Our immense grief is only made bearable by the thought that Vinz is now in the loving arms of our Creator.
When we lose a loved one, we must remember that we can depend on God’s grace to help us get through our heartbreak. Sorrow does not have to get the best us.
Vinz is now rejoicing with our Lord. Let us remember his happy life with us. This is a reminder that each of us has a borrowed life. In time, this will be surrendered to our Almighty. Thus, we must live our life to the fullest in accordance with God’s commandments and teachings.
Vinz’s friends and colleagues at NLEX mourn his passing. But the memories we have of him and the memories we made with him will live on. We will not say goodbye to Vinz. Instead we say, “Until we meet again.”
