Discovering the Plantitos and Plantitas
by Khate Ganio – Sabado
It’s close to six months since Covid-19 affected our lives and surprisingly, being stuck at home is not that bad at all. In one way or another, we were able to discover a part of ourselves we never knew existed or maybe we just did not have the time or chance to explore before. Being stay-at-home bods, some of us have become self-proclaimed chefs and bakers, others wood makers and handymen, while some have discovered their “green thumbs” and started raising a backyard garden of their own.
Let us discover why some of our co-employees chose to be Plantitos and Plantitas.
“Nagstart kami mag alaga ng plants kasabay ng pagtayo ng bahay way back 2000 pa. Then nitong pandemic binalikan ulit namin yung pag aalaga dahil mas makakapag focus na kami.

“I started getting interested after kong ma-Covid eh. Tapos sina mama at yung pinsan ko, pinag uusapan nila one time mga cacti and succulents, tapos pati sa FB newsfeed ko din . Then, by looking at them, I find it very therapeutic, saka si Mam Tin, pinakita nya yung mga tanim nila nung ECQ, Na inspire din ako. Before mag pandemic, plan ko talaga to buy plants in time sa paglipat namin ng bahay.”

I decided to take care of plants because it gives me a satisfying feeling, happiness, and nakaka good vibes lalo na when there’s a new bloom na flower.”

“I’ve started owning plants just last May 2020 as I feel that it relieves my stress and boredom during this quarantine. If a certified plantito or plantita means I follow different plant shops, watch videos on how to properly grow plants, and talk to plants everyday, then definitely yes! I also love pets too! It’s just that I feel relaxed and relieved whenever I see greens around me. I guess it’s okay to take care of both too?”
