Work(out) Together! – Harness the Power of Group Dynamics Through Workplace Physical Activity

By Maria Kristina Wingkee

In our fast-paced work environment, it is easy to forget about physical health. However, staying active and energized is vital for optimal performance and overall well-being. Incorporating physical activity into our daily routine can help us maintain focus, reduce stress, and improve productivity.

The concept of the group effect emphasizes the power of collective engagement. When we participate in activities together, we not only enhance motivation but also achieve better outcomes. Working as a team fosters accountability, camaraderie, and a sense of shared accomplishment, making the experience more enjoyable and effective. By prioritizing workplace wellness through group activities, we can unlock the full potential of both our physical and professional lives.

This year, we have made our Stress Management Program into Wellness Wave Revolution. The top management supported and approved making group exercises more fit to the schedule of NLEX employees. Currently, HRAD is offering four wellness wave classes; every Monday- Yoga, Tuesday- Zumba, Wednesday- Boxing, and Thursday- Tae Bo.

What’s new? For Zumba and Boxing, we made the schedule earlier from 6 to 7 PM adjusted to 4:30 to 5:30PM. These changes made a significant impact. They received overwhelming support and participation. This is because it helped employees join group exercises. They could still manage to join the shuttle going home.

YOGA- 6-7:00PM

ZUMBA- 4:30-5:30PM

BOXING- 4:30-5:30PM

TAE BO- 6-7PM

Lead by Example

Some of the managers and supervisors have been actively participating in our Wellness Wave classes. This participation has made the experience even more impactful. As leaders, they set the example by prioritizing health and wellness, which encourages employees to do the same. When employees witness their leaders engaging in physical activities, it creates a culture. This culture values and embraces well-being by everyone.

Group physical activities offer a unique opportunity for employees across different departments or levels to come together, interact, and collaborate. Encouraging cross-team participation helps strengthen relationships and creates a more positive and cohesive work environment.

By using the power of the group effect through workplace physical activity, employees can improve their physical well-being. They can also enhance their mental well-being. This leads to a more vibrant, energized, and productive workforce. Employers who prioritize their employees’ health and happiness will see the rewards in the form of increased engagement, enhanced job satisfaction, and a thriving organizational culture. So, let us come together and unleash the full potential of the group effect in our workplaces!
