MPTC Pivots in Build As One 2025

By Sam Escolano

In the book Disrupt With Impact: Achieve Business Success in an Unpredictable World, international bestselling author Roger Spitz highlights the importance of being ahead of the curve and defining the future in a world of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (“VUCA”). He wrote, “In a VUCA world, if you’re not consciously confused, you’re ignorant. If you’re not preparing, you’re negligent.”

To be ahead of the curve in providing safe and convenient mobility experience to all travellers when both external and internal contexts are continually being redefined is no simple feat. In order to steer the group and pivot to the right direction, the 10th year of MPTC’s Build As One was held with the theme “PIVOT: Making Our Vision Possible.”

Held on August 28 to 30, 2025 at the Camp John Hay Convention Center, the annual management conference of MPTC featured pivoting towards better customer experience, rationale for organization pivot, and workshops on how to manage change.

The conference was opened by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, who highlighted how MPTC champions change through its expressways, and its contributions towards a smart Baguio City.

Workshops during the conference were packed with insights and learnings. Customer experience expert Mahesh Menon, founder and director of Clay Consulting, along with MPTC’s Venn Jude Francisco, held workshops on how to redefine customer experience, and being able to pivot towards experience enablers to overcome change blockers. Renoir Consulting presented rationales for the proposed changes to MPTC’s organization on a macro level. Ron Jacobe of People Ignite held workshops on how to lead and manage change. To wrap up the conference, our MPTC executives also entertained questions and provided insights to the upcoming organizational changes.

Build As One 2025 is nothing short of its own pivots as well. In his opening remarks, JML announced that Engr. Gilbert Sta. Maria will be the new MPTC President and CEO starting September 1, 2025. The appointment of NLEX Corporation President and General Manager Luis Reñon was also confirmed in the conference.

Of course, while we pivot hard at work in MPTC, we also pivot hard at play. The annual North vs. South basketball game, morning Zumba, and pickleball were energizers enjoyed by the conference participants. Dinner and socials hosted by HRAD’s Macky Vitug were also great fun and fellowship boosters among MPTC managers.
